Qualifications for GT Car: Must be two doors and it must be a coupe or convertible.

My contribution is the Mercedes 450SL. A 190hp handsome GT from the era of darkness that was the 1970s. It is also relatively reliable and has that classic charm that you just have to love.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Think my answer is wrong? What Grand tourer can you find that is better under 5,000 dollars?

That is a good answer. Japanese, green, and jelly bean shape. So 90s it hurts!

Plus, one of the best engines ever made, the 1UZ. Also one of the best sounding, when unrestricted.

Better have Euro bumpers, some cars I can’t stand with safety specs. My w123 is ok but I want Euros someday.

Not many left for the price because people have finally figured out how good a car they are, but a BMW 635csi is the one for me. 633s are easier to find for less, like this one for $1500 in Oregon:

I won’t say the R107 SL is a wrong choice, I just generally dislike convertibles (bolt-on hardtop or not) and don’t enjoy the way they drive. Also, having tangled with more than I can count over the years, I don’t care for working on them.

When I get the Gx470 I’m dying for it’s getting uncorked. The 2uz is based off the same structure and sounds just as good. My LS will continue to stay corked up and drivable.

I’m gonna say Z32 300zx, coupe or convertible. It’s a bit more on the sporting side of GT, but it’s still a bigger car, with plush leather seats, and a strong 220hp V6, You can get a hard top, t-tops, or a real vert, as well as the option of “rear seats”. Plus you can go have some hooning fun when you want too. This is actually like Number 3 in my list of possible next cars.

Assuming it’s under $5,000 (not a wild assumption considering it’s a 90s Thunderbird), I submit the following:

If you don’t like convertibles simply leave the hardtop up or get the cheaper SLC which is also a great option.

As for the BMW I never would have thought of one of these for $1500 for a 633 it is a massively tempting offer

I would personally argue it fits more into the sports car category but nevertheless not a bad answer

The SLC just looks off to me, they’re too long for the SL’s lines to work. But that’s a personal aesthetic feeling. They do manage to feel even more ponderous than the SL though, due to the increased wheelbase and weight. Comfortable though, and I won’t deny the strength of the powertrain.

Early 2000 jaguar xk8. I’ve seen reasonably well cared for XK8s for around that price, though I’m struggling to find one right now. One person recently had all of the timing chain guide work done, and was asking under $5k and this cars only big maintenance nightmare if you ask owners are those guides, so it might actually be something you could keep on the road if you found an owner who had done those and then been scared off. So something between these two in terms of quality and price:

Yeah, but that one’s a little special. I know mods generally don’t add much to the value of the car, but a supercharged V8 and three pedals adds a lot of value to me.

I didn’t realize these were so cheap as well. They look outstanding too. I would totally buy one of these over the comparable SL likely because unlike the SL these would be rust free
